Control of Atypical PRRS Outbreak in a Farm |
HISTORY. The farm, a 750 SL level farrow to finish operation, is performing normally. However it is PRRS sero positive but is in stable condition. The farm is mass vaccinating the breeders with a killed European serotype vaccine. However due to the fear of PRRS outbreak raging in Luzon, they decided to vaccinate with a live vaccine. Vaccination started of the last week of October 2007.Then on Dec. 21, 2007, a sudden outbreak of red ear disease hit the nursery of the farm. Mortality shoots up in 2 months old piglets. The pigs are not responding to medication. |
